From Tour to Orchard: Learning from the Best at Field & Forest

There are moments when a project starts to feel real — not just an idea, but something you’re actively building.

For us, that moment came when we made the drive to Field & Forest Products to pick up our truffle trees and see firsthand how everything works behind the scenes.

A Day at Field & Forest

We spent the day touring their entire operation — from production and shipping to research and development, and even their truffle orchard and mushroom log systems.

What stood out most wasn’t just the process, but the depth of knowledge and care behind everything they do. It’s one thing to read about growing mushrooms or truffles online. It’s another to see it being done by people who have refined their approach through years of experience.

Seeing the Science Up Close

One of the most fascinating parts of the visit was seeing how much attention goes into the invisible side of growing — the relationship between roots and fungi.

It’s not just planting trees. It’s creating the right conditions for something much more complex to develop over time.

Bringing the Orchard Home

We left with our truffle trees — carefully prepared and ready for planting — and a much clearer understanding of what it takes to give them the best chance to thrive.

Back at our property, the work began immediately.

Laying out the orchard, preparing the ground, and planting each tree felt different after the tour. Every step had more meaning because we understood the “why” behind it.

We’re not just planting trees — we’re starting a long-term system that will evolve over years.

The Beginning of Something Bigger

This orchard represents more than a project. It’s the foundation of what we’re building here.

There’s still a lot to learn, and we fully expect challenges along the way. But having seen what’s possible — and learning from people who are doing it at a high level — gave us confidence that we’re on the right path.

This is just the beginning 🌱
